OECS Trade officers hold urgent talks in Castries on preparing for withdrawal of government subsidies for export

Castries Saint. Lucia, May 11th, 2010, Trade officers throughout the OECS concluded urgent talks in Castries on Monday on preparing for a pending withdrawal of government subsidies for export by the end of 2015.Participants

Experts say government subsidies for export have been used to attract foreign investment and help tremendously in employing thousands of people throughout the OECS. However, based on a World Trade Orgainsation (WTO) agreement in 2007, OECS Member States are obligated to remove the export subsidies from their legislation as of 2015.

OECS Secretariat to assist Dominica with Implementation of the CSME
Trade Policy TeamThe OECS Trade Policy Unit will be part of a delegation to Dominica next week to discuss the harmonization and standardization of the country’s administrative practices and procedures to ensure that they are compliant with the arrangements under the CSME.

The mission comprises representatives of the CSME Unit and CARICAD which will meet with the National Coordinating Committee in Dominica under the auspices of the CIDA funded CSME Trade and Competitiveness Project. This Project seeks to streamline procedures and facilitate increased participation of stakeholders in the implementation of the CSME.
