OECSInfo_logo_largeOECSInfo (meaning OECS Information) is a regional socio-economic database facility which aims to improve the OECS region’s capacity to manage and access reliable data to facilitate evidence based  planning, inform the allocation of government resources and support the design, monitoring and evaluation of research and development plans.  The database targets policy makers and planners, in the public and private sectors as well as users in the public both regionally and internationally.

The database was developed at the OECS Secretariat with the assistance of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).  The database utilizes DevInfo Version 6.0. a user friendly software which was developed by UNICEF and adapted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for use by UN Member Countries in monitoring human development.

Initially, OECSInfo contains social and economic statistical data on over 1,300 indicators and metadata (i.e. information about the data) on various aspects of  life in the OECS region. The database contains time series information for various time periods, disaggregated by age and sex distributions and by administrative  areas.  The data allows for trend analysis where long time series are available.  The database therefore includes  useful information for the tracking of development progress  towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) as  well as other development plans including integration initiatives, poverty reduction strategies and sector specific strategies

OECSInfo indicators cover a wide range of areas including:

Population   Debt   Argriculture
GDP   FDI  Tourism
Education   Employment   Environment
Health   Household  Poverty

The sources of data include surveys and censuses.  A substantial amount of data in the database was obtained from OECS Member States Central Statistics Office (CSOs). There are also data supplied by other government agencies and organizations including the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB).

The database dimensions include the storage of indicators by time periods, sources, sectors and areas.  The software allows users to generate tables, graphs, maps and customized reports.

The data is being disseminated from the OECS Secretariat initially by CD-ROM and subsequently will be released on the World Wide Web.
