Meeting of OECS Leaders of Parliamentary Opposition Hailed a Success PDF Print Email

FIRST MEEETING_OE_OECS_HEADS_OF_OPPOSITION_AHEAD_OF_FIRST_OECS_ECONMONIC_UNION_ASSEMBLY_20  Castries, May 05, 2012, Leaders of the Parliamentary Opposition in      the Member States of the OECS ended a successful meeting in Saint Lucia on May 04, 2012 at which they discussed issues relating  to the operationalisation of the OECS Economic Union.

  The meeting was convened at the instance of Dr the Hon. Kenny    Anthony, Chairman of the OECS Authority and Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, and was attended by opposition Parliamentarians from all Member States except Montserrat and the BVI.

 

The meeting had a three-fold objective, namely:

  1. To brief Parliamentarians on developments relating to the Economic Union;
  2. To keep alive the process of consultation and public education which has been a feature of the Economic Union project; and

      3)  To address issues relating to the inauguration of the OECS Assembly, one of the Principal Organs of the OECS Economic         Union in which OECS Parliamentarians will be the principal actors.

FREE MOVEMENT OF OECS CITIZENS TAKES EFFECT PDF Print Email

Monday August 1, 2011 heralded the commencement of full free movement of OECS citizens throughout the six independent countries of the Organisation.   Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines agreed that, from that date, they would permit OECS citizens to enter their territories and remain for an indefinite period in order to work, establish businesses, provide services or reside.

PM_Spencer_Signs_Ratification_Instrument(OECS Secretariat, Castries, St. Lucia, Tuesday January 4th 2011) People of the OECS have moved closer towards increased benefits associated with the free movement of skills and persons as well as better business opportunities. This follows Antigua and Barbuda’s historic signing of the Instrument of Ratification for the Revised OECS Treaty of Basseterre Establishing OECS Economic Union.
