Communique - 54th Meeting of the OECS Authority PDF Print Email

The Fifty-fourth Meeting of the OECS Authority was convened in Rodney Bay, St Lucia over the period January 23-24, 2012 under the Chairmanship of Dr. the Honourable Kenny D. Anthony, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia. All Member States were represented with the exception of Montserrat. The Member States present were represented at the level of Head of Government, with the exception of Anguilla which was represented at the Ministerial level. The Meeting focused in the main on matters relating to the operationalisation of the OECS Economic Union, including:

  1. Legislative and other arrangements relating to implementation of the Revised Treaty of Basseterre;
  2. Operationalisation of the Organs of the Union including the Councils, the Commission, and the Regional Parliamentary Assembly; and
  3. Financing of the Secretariat/Commission and the Economic Union.

education strategyThe Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States Education Reform Unit (OERU) launched a three-phase project to develop a new 10-year OECS Education Sector Strategy at its headquarters on November 30, 2011.  The purpose of the regional strategy is to encourage collaboration and harmonisation of educational initiatives among Member States and strengthen educational outcomes in the sub-region.

USA AND OECS ESTABLISH DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS PDF Print Email

usa-oecs-formal-relations(Wednesday October 26, 2011, OECS Secretariat Castries) The USA and the OECS established relations at the diplomatic level on Tuesday October 25th 2011.

OECS Director General Dr. Len Ishmael accepted Letters of Introduction from the United States Envoy to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, Mr. Christopher Sandrolini, at a ceremony which took place earlier today at the OECS Secretariat. The formalization of relations between the USA and the OECS is expected to enhance a longstanding relationship between the United States and the region, signifying, in the words of the Director General. “…the beginning of a new chapter in the long and enduring relationship between the United States and its friends in the Eastern Caribbean.”
