 The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) marks its 28th anniversary, Thursday June 18th 2009. Activities to mark the occasion include the regional launch of an animated Television series called “U” which highlights the benefits of OECS integration to citizens of the sub-region, and promotes the proposed OECS Economic Union. There will also be the release of a song entitled “Oye U See Us”, produced by a group of musicians to help draw public attention to the big success stories of OECS integration, and to back the current moves to build stronger ties. |

 OECS Ambassador to Brussels Ms. Shirley Skerrit-Andrew presented her credentials to the King of Belgium at the Royal Palace on Wednesday, June 10th, 2009.
The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Brussels Mission attended by the Director of the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) of the OECS Secretariat Mr. Randolph Cato, Minister Counsellor at the Brussels Mission Dr. Arnold Thomas, and other staff at the Mission. |

 The OECS Secretariat will convene a national workshop for legislative drafters and trade officials at the Jolly Beach Resort on June 18-19th. The workshop will provide information on trade commitments and give guidance on the legislation that is required to implement these commitments. Participants will also examine model legislation and drafting instructions for subjects such as fiscal incentives and safeguards.

 The OECS Secretariat will next Monday (June 15th) launch a community project valued at US$133,662.20 in the north of Dominica. The launch ceremony will take place at the Cabrits National Park (CNP) Garrison from 3:00 p.m. and will be addressed by local Ministers of government and the OECS Secretariat.

The OECS Secretariat is expected to receive guidance and recommendations during a two day workshop to be held next week on the best ways to support sustainable financing for protected areas in the region.
The regional workshop scheduled for June 9-10th will be held at the Bay Gardens Hotel, in Saint Lucia.
