OECS Secretariat to Host Regional Social Protection Meeting PDF Print Email

blank_imageThe OECS Secretariat, in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), will be hosting a two-day regional workshop on Social Protection at the Bay Gardens Hotel, Saint Lucia on December 8 and 9, 2009. This meeting will bring together representatives of Development Partners and allied agencies and senior policy makers in OECS Member States to develop an OECS social protection and social safety net strategic framework.

50_authority_dg_pmOECS Secretariat, Castries St. Lucia November 26th, 2009: In keeping with the historic nature of the event, the 50th meeting of the OECS Heads of Government paid glowing tribute to the Chief Minister of Anguilla, The Hon. Osbourne Fleming who plans to leave active politics in 2010. In his capacity as Chief Minister, Mr. Fleming hosted and sat in his last formal meeting of OECS Heads of Government when the landmark event was staged in Anguilla from November 18th to 20th 2009.

Historically when there was much uncertainty/trepidation amongst population groups and the possibility that risk/threat to human survival was exceptionally high, civilized societies opted to put in place agreements among it citizen that will regulate the individual behaviour in respect of each other that would give equal opportunity for survival.

sm_swimmingGrenada emerged champions of the Annual OECS Swim Championships held in Grenada on November 6 – 8, 2009. When the water calmed down at the pool, Grenada had accumulated a total of 206 medals (63 gold, 84 silver and 59 bronze), while St. Lucia captured 142 medals (63 gold, 39 silver and 40 bronze) to clinch second place. Antigua and Barbuda was third with 28 medals (2 gold, 5 silver and 21 bronze).
