OECS Secretariat Attends WTO Geneva Week PDF Print Email

The OECS Secretariat along with representatives of Ministries of Trade in the OECS will be attending the Fifth Geneva Week for the Non-resident Members and Observers of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland from the 4th to 8th November 2002.

The aim of this activity is to brief participants of progress made under the WTO’s Work Programme agreed at the Ministerial Meeting held in Doha Qatar in November 2001, and to provide an opportunity to take part in substantive aspects of the WTO work.

The OECS Secretariat has been invited because of the role that it plays in strengthening trade policy capacity in Member countries. Ms. Virgina Paul, Economic Affairs Officer will represent the Secretariat.

Some of the issues that will be discussed during the course of the week are Trade Policy Reviews and the integration of trade into development strategies, The WTO ‘s Technical Cooperation and Capacity Building Programme, investment, competition policy and trade and the environment.

The Secretariat welcomes the opportunity to participate in this activity, as it will provide an insight into the dynamics of the operations of the WTO.
