A proposal by the OECS Secretariat to develop an Eastern Caribbean label for the regional yachting sector will be discussed in Grenada this Friday, March 12 th. The proposal seeks to widen and deepen the regional integration process by promoting the Eastern Caribbean as a “shared space” by the yachting sector.
The Secretariat will use Friday's meeting to provide stakeholders in Grenada with details of three major components of the proposal. Among them, participationby the OECS Member States in one of Europe's biggest boat shows, Le Grand Pavois boat show in France in 2005, at which the OECS will be honoured. The meeting will also promote a possible French Cup race to be held after the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers which begins each year in Europe and ends in St. Lucia. The participants will also discuss development of a Code of Ethics for boatyards, marinas and yachts. Participants from the Grenada Ministry of Tourism, the Ports Authority, Fisheries Department, Customs and the Marine and Yachting Association, will review and provide feedback on the Secretariat's proposal. Friday's meeting takes place at the Conference Room of the Grenada Board of Tourism, from 9:00 am. The Secretariat's proposal will be presented by OECS Director General Dr. Len Ishmael and OECS Tourism Officer Ms. Daphne Vidal. Similar meetings on this yachting proposal will be held in the other OECS Member States. For further information contact: |
