In its continued effort to build capacity, the OECS HIV AIDS Project Unit (HAPU) has introduced its latest initiative to improve data surveillance through a Preceptorship programme which began in August. This programme targets monitoring and evaluation (M&E) officers within national HIV programmes and aims to provide opportunities for building mentorship relationships.
The objectives of the preceptorship are to: (a) develop basic skills and competencies in M&E, (b) provide exposure to specific areas of interests and requirements of work related responsibilities and (c) foster relationships between M&E professionals within the region. Support and technical assistance for this programme is being provided by regional agencies and national programmes that have resident M&E expertise.
The first participant to benefit from this new initiative is Ms. Dawn Hazell-Gills, M&E officer in the Saint Lucia national AIDs programme, who recently completed a three week attachment at the Caribbean HIV/AIDS Regional Training Network (CHART) Regional Coordinating Unit Network in Jamaica. |
