Chemical WeaponsA conference to help increase knowledge on the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) has been scheduled for St. Lucia from November 28th to 29th 2005. 

The main objective of the two day workshop on the Chemical Weapons Convention is to forge a better understanding of the practical aspects of the Convention and thereby promote its universality and full and effective implementation.

On the opening day delegates will hear among other presentations, the status of implementation and benefits of adherence to the Chemical Weapons Convention, (CWC).

Chemical WeaponsIn addition, OECS and other counties signed on to the Convention will share experiences in the national implementation of the CWC. The second day of the workshop will specifically address legislative implementation and enforcement of the Convention. This includes a round table session on the drafting of legislative provisions including considerations of sample and model legislation. Deliberations on the Chemical Weapons Conventions include its relationship with import, export, trade and industry and laboratory related issues.

Chemical Weapons The conference, facilitated by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, OECS Secretariat will bring together delegates from the OECS, the Bahamas, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and States not Party in the Caribbean region. Outcomes, follow-up actions for adoption and implementation of the CWC by States in the region are among the expected results of the workshop. The CWC conference will be held at the Rex St. Lucian Hotel.
