Head of the OECS HAPU Dr. James St. Catherine, has confirmed the receipt of the new set of funding totaling over 700 thousand U.S. dollars. The recent disbursement, to be used over an 18 month period, follows an initial amount of 72 thousand U.S. dollars. A further eight million U.S. dollars will be provided by the Global Fund through the World Bank over the next three years, once the programme continues to meet other terms and conditions under the funding agreement. “It’s quite a large amount but at this point and time we have to justify the confidence that we can spend the remaining larger portion of the money.”-St. Catherine” The disbursements are part of a grant by the Global Fund totaling 10.2 million U.S, dollars to OECS Member States for a five year period. The OECS Secretariat which is the Principal Recipient is working with Ministries of Finance and Health in the sub-region to support the implementation of programmes as well as to monitor and evaluate activities already undertaken in areas such as treatment, awareness and prevention. The six participating OECS Member Countries under the OECS HAPU project are Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Contacts: |
