A senior Methodist minister in Anguilla has told members of the legal fraternity the law is not so much for punishment as it is for redemption.
The Reverend Dr Clifton Niles delivered the sermon during the traditional church service to mark the start of the new law year. Speaking at St Mary’s Parish Church in the Valley, Reverend Niles said he was placing before the members of the legal profession divine faith. The Methodist Church leader says this means faith in a Creator God. He singled out four necessary Christian qualities – righteousness, kindness, humility and faith. In his closing remarks, Reverend Niles told the members of the legal fraternity they must not be ‘slightly irregular’ but instead be ‘men and women of quality.” He also admonished them to do justice, love mercy, walk humbly with their God and be men and women of faith. Among some of the other areas mentioned in the Acting Chief Justice report were the Unified Judiciary, and Judicial Accountability; Software Upgrades and the use of JEMS in Magistrate Courts; court related technology; court reporting; mediation and staffing.
