Dominica is getting a chance to promote their soon to be opened marina, at the 2005 edition of the Grand Pavois international boat show in La Rochelle, France.

The marina and plaza, expected to be operational in the next two and a half months, is located in New Town, about five miles south of capital Roseau, and adds to the islands marine tourism sector.

Dominica is part of a joint OECS mission to the 2005 edition of the Grand Pavois boat show. The joint participation is being coordinated by the OECS Secretariat to further promote the sub-region's critical tourism industry and in particular the marine tourism sector. The OECS Director General Dr. Len Ishmael who is spearheading the initiative, has consistently highlighted the fact that the sub-region with some of the world's best sailing waters should be earning significantly more from yachting. Dr. Ishmael expects the Grand Pavois exposure to lead to increased yachting arrivals and revenue for the nine participating islands.

The three member Dominica delegation say many of the visitors to their booth have heard of the destination and its location between the Freench overseas departments of Martinique and Guadeloupe. They say visitors have been enquiring about access to the islands, its marine and onshore facilities and its on-shore accomodation and activities.

The members of the Dominica team are Patricia Linton of the National Development Corporation (NDC), Hubert Winston Properieter and representative of the Dominica Marine Centre, and Anthony Gunn Manager of the offshore company International Management Trust.
