Haiti was ravaged by four hurricanes — Fay, Gustav, Hanna and Ike — in less than four weeks during August and September. Nearly 800 people were killed and much of the country's agriculture was destroyed, leaving many people hungry. Total damage has been estimated at more than one billion US dollars.
