| OECS PPS To Host First Joint Mission Of Two International Health Service Institutions |

The OECS Pharmaceutical Procurement Service Unit (OECS PPS) will be hosting an inaugural joint mission of the World Health Orginisation (WHO) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) from December 12-16. The two member WHO delegation comprising Ms. Murthe Everard and Dr. Sphie Logez will assess the OECS/PPS’ Quality Assurance Programme. The assessment will inform recommendations and policies which ensure that regionally procured drugs are safe and effective and conform to international specifications. Nicole Burkett-Felix, the OECS PPS’ Research and Quality Control Officer says the delegation from the Gulf Cooperation Council, which also comprises two persons will be added value at next week’s meeting. “The two member delegation of Dr. Ahmed Khateeb and Mr. Hayder Zain will share experiences and expertise regarding best practices of centralized pharmaceutical procurement in the Middle East. The OECS/PPS will discuss areas of technical cooperation in specialized software for tendering and contracting and possibly agree on a reciprocal study tour between the two multi-state procurement agencies, OECS/PPS and GCC.”-Felix During the visit of both missions the OECS/PPS’ Managing Director Francis Burnett will accompany the joint team to the Central Medical Store in St. Lucia to observe and discuss procurement matters with the CMA Manager and Chief Pharmacist. In one of it’s highpoints for the year 2005, the OECS PPS spearheaded an atrractive Red Ribbon Public Awareness campaign as part of a week of activities in observance of World Aids Day on December 1st.
