At that historic meeting working groups at the meeting identified several key areas and recommended activities to help drive the process towards ratifying the agreement. The areas are Air and Sea Ports, Justice and Security, Agriculture, Trade and Investment Promotion, Education, Information Technology, Sports, Health, Tourism, Environment and Natural Disaster Management.

The meeting also explored the possibility of establishing an OECS Desk in San Juan financed by the Government of Puerto Rico and staffed by the OECS. Following the meeting, both parties expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the consultations. One of the delegates, Nelson Bayron Justiniano expressed his pleasure in working with the OECS towards finalizing the corporation agreement.

This Memorandum of Understanding will help to foster the already cordial relationship between the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the OECS, primarily in the exchange of goods and services and the movement of people.

The OECS Secretariat is in the process of preparing a draft document for circulation that will inform a final submission of the Memorandum of Understanding to the OECS Authority in November for approval.

This Memorandum of Understanding is to be ratified at an OECS and Puerto Rico Prime-ministerial Summit on a date to be announced.
