At a meeting of the OECS Private Sector held in Grenada on January 15th 2004, it was agreed that an OECS Private Sector Organization be formed. A four person Steering Committee was named comprised of Mr. Michael Astaphan of Dominica (Chairman), Mr. Guy Mayers of St. Lucia, Mr. Christopher De Riggs of Grenada and Mr. Tapley Seaton Q. C. of St. Kitts and Nevis for this purpose. The Committee was given the task of (i) achieving consensus on the functions and format for the Organization, (ii) clarifying its relationship with CAIC and (iii) structuring its financing mechanisms. A Meeting of the Committee was held (today) 17th May, 2004 at the Office of the Trade Policy Project in St. Lucia and at which the Draft Constituent documents for the proposed Association of OECS Private Sector Organizations were prepared for circulation to National Private Sector Entities and the establishment of a Business Forum pursuant to a recommendation made to the OECS Heads of Government.
The Meeting was facilitated by the OECS Trade Policy Project and the Meeting recorded its appreciation for this gesture of support.

C. of St. Kitts and Nevis for this purpose.
In the afternoon session the Steering Committee met with Representatives of the OECS Secretariat to discuss proposals for the OECS Business Forum to interact on a regular basis with the OECS Secretariat and OECS Heads of Government on matters relating to the economic development of OECS States and OECS Private Sector interests and concerns in this context. A report of this Meeting will be submitted to the OECS Authority at its meeting in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on May 20 -21, 2004.
