The OECS Export Development Unit (EDU) on Thursday August 12th, continued its technical assistance to small and medium sized businesses in St. Lucia. EDU’s USAID-funded Small and Medium Enterprise Development Project held a one days workshop for its St. Lucia clients on “Managing Growth in the Small Business”. Fifteen of the twenty-one St. Lucian companies associated with the project attended the workshop. The OECS Export Development Unit (EDU) on Thursday August 12th , continued its technical assistance to small and medium sized businesses in St. Lucia.EDU’s USAID-funded Small and Medium Enterprise Development Project held a one days workshop for its St. Lucia clients on “Managing Growth in the Small Business”. Fifteen of the twenty-one St. Lucian companies associated with the project attended the workshop. The workshop was aimed at taking the pain of out growth by helping managers identify the cause of any growing pains and exploring how to adopt a simple, planned approach to overcome the problem of growth.
Workshop coordinators were Project Coordinator for the Small and Medium Enterprise Development project Mr. Daniel Arthurton and Business Advisor Mr. Melbour Phillip. The Dominica based Small and Medium Enterprise Development project has been providing direct technical and financial assistance to more than 75 companies across the sub-region over the past three years. The Project’s work in St. Lucia has identified the area of managing growth as one of the emerging challenges to be tackled. The SMED Project is geared towards increasing export by OECS small and medium sized companies through increased competitiveness and productivity.

The OECS Export Development Unit (EDU) on Thursday August 12th, continued its technical assistance to small and medium sized businesses in St. Lucia.
Participants were also helped to understand the main problems facing a growing firm; identify their own main growing fears; and understand the importance of planning and how to find time to plan. They were also helped to identify and develop the right team for growth; understand how to keep their finances under control; how to create the space for growth; focus on growth products; and how to develop a future growth strategy and remove future uncertainty through planning.
