OECS Ambassador to Brussels Ms. Shirley Skerrit-Andrew presented her credentials to the King of Belgium at the Royal Palace on Wednesday, June 10th, 2009.
The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Brussels Mission attended by the Director of the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) of the OECS Secretariat Mr. Randolph Cato, Minister Counsellor at the Brussels Mission Dr. Arnold Thomas, and other staff at the Mission. |

The OECS Secretariat will convene a national workshop for legislative drafters and trade officials at the Jolly Beach Resort on June 18-19th. The workshop will provide information on trade commitments and give guidance on the legislation that is required to implement these commitments. Participants will also examine model legislation and drafting instructions for subjects such as fiscal incentives and safeguards.

OECS Heads of Government wrapped up their 49th Meeting in Tortola BVI, May 22nd, calling it a watershed in the historical evolution of the organization.
Heads noted the enhanced international profile of the Organisation which has resulted from the repositioning of the OECS to be outward looking in pursuit of its strategic interests around the world. |

Implications of the global and regional financial crisis for OECS economies will be among matters facing OECS Heads of Government when they meet in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, for the 49th Meeting of the OECS Authority, May 20th to 22nd.
The meeting will consider the effects of the financial crisis on key sectors, including tourism and construction, and will also examine social safety net provisions for the needy and dispossessed. Heads will also discuss issues for the OECS from international developments regarding tax havens. |
