![]() OECS Secretariat, Castries St. Lucia November 12th , 2009: It started with the signing of the Treaty of Basseterre on June 18, 1981, forming the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). Now, twenty-eight years later, the OECS lives on as a cohesive unit of Member States attracting world-wide admiration as a model of functional cooperation and integration.
Today, the OECS prepares to observe another watershed event with the gathering of Heads of Government for the 50th Meeting of the OECS Authority on Wednesday November 18th in The Valley, Anguilla. Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Denzil Douglas will chair this historic gathering of OECS Heads of Government. Prime Minister Douglas will also address the opening ceremony on Wednesday evening. The 50th Meeting of the OECS Authority is also expected to be a fitting send-off for the outgoing Chief Minister of the host country Anguilla, the Hon. Osbourne Fleming, who has announced plans to retire from active politics in 2010. The OECS Authority will also welcome a new Head to the family in the person of the new Chief Minister of Montserrat, Hon. Reuben T. Meade.
