The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States' (OECS), Economic Affairs Division, recently began a new publication entitled Trade Policy Briefs.

The Briefs are circulated electronically (on a monthly basis via e-mail to relevant focal points) as a back stopping measure to complement the analytical/research capacities of OECS Member States, the CRNM College of Negotiators and other stakeholders in the area of external trade relations.

The central goal of this exciting new initiative is to strengthen decision-making capacity in the sub-region.

Trade Policy Briefs is being made available at a time when OECS Member States are faced with a multitude of challenges with respect to their external relations. They are engaged in a wide variety of trade frameworks that have a critical role in determining the economic fortunes of the entire sub-region for decades to come.

The trade issues affecting the OECS necessarily spill-over from and are centered in the various trade forums that the sub-region is party to; specifically:

As previously indicated the intention of the Briefs are to fill some of the research, analytical capacity and policy advice/guidance gaps in the sub-region vis-à-vis hemispheric/multilateral trade issues.

It is expected that Trade Policy Briefs will provide substantive policy advice on trade issues such that stakeholders will be better able to formulate positions in a proactive fashion on trade issues affecting the sub-region.

Let me take this opportunity to welcome you once again and encourage you to make return visits to the OECS Trade Policy Briefs web link.
