ESDU BuildingThe OECS-Environment and Sustainable Development Unit OECS-ESDU is reviewing its Operational plan to help ensure that its service delivery to the Member States is on target and reflects the needs of its clients.

The primary goal of these consultations will be to identify future programming needs within the framework of the St. George’s Declaration of Principles for Environmental Sustainability in the OECS and the National Environmental Management Strategies. (NEMS)

This review is in the form of inter-sectoral consultations through all Member States. The evaluation is necessary now that all Member States have completed or are completing their individual national environmental management strategies (NEMS). Among other things, these strategies clearly point to the need for environmental management assessments at the national and regional levels.

On the other hand, the NEMS can only be implemented through inter-sectoral and inter-agency coordination. The inter-sectoral consultations will also review the work of the OECS-ESDU. The consultations will end on May 6 th in Basseterre.

Findings will be presented at the Eighth Meeting of the OECS Environmental Policy Committee, (EPC) tentatively scheduled for Saint Lucia in July.
