The OECS Secretariat will on Wednesday (October 12) host a fourteen member delegation from the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada to press forward mutual plans to promote sustainable economic development through good environmental practices.
The brief late-morning meeting, at the OECS Secretariat in Castries is expected to advance the interest of both parties and begin further exploration of possible funding options to pursue joint programmes. The discussions are with a view towards fulfilling obligations in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in July 2004 at the 8 th meeting of the OECS Ministers of Environment Policy Committee (EPC) in Castries. Hon. Kerry Morash, Minister of the Environment and Labour, Nova Scotia, will head the visiting delegation from Canada. This meeting is the second, since the two entities signed the MOU, last year. Eight officials of the OECS Secretariat anticipate a successful meeting that they hope will help move them one step ahead in their bid to foster environmental business development that corresponds with international law and advances other environmental agreements. The two entities have established a joint working group, a joint The work-programme and a number of areas of co-operation in an effort to achieve their collective goal.
