Technical officers involved in Solid Waste Management, throughout the OECS will be exposed to modern solid waste management operations at a training course to be held in Castries from April 7 to 11. The OECS Environment and Sustainable Development Unit ESDU will be coordinating the training programme at the Cara Suites Hotel. Along with the operations managers and other technical staff from Solid Waste Management entities in the OECS, officers from Health ministries in the sub region will also attend the training programme. Consultant to the OECS on Solid and Ship Generated Waste, Peter Norville says the programme will introduce the participants to modern techniques and methods in Solid Waste Management operations. Norville believes that the course will enhance the capacity of Solid Waste Management entities to address major issues associated with the operation of the modernized solid waste management systems in the OECS, including landfill operations, waste collection systems, waste recycling, and composting. The training programme is being undertaken under the Regional Component of the OECS Solid and Ship-Generated Waste Management Project, which is being executed through the Environment and Sustainable Development Unit of the OECS Secretariat |
