The 9 th session of the OECS Environment Policy Committee EPC has been postponed because of the prevailing weather conditions regarding Tropical Storm Emily.

The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the OECS Environment and Sustainable Development Unit OECSESDU advised postponement of the meeting since the current weather pattern disrupted plans such as flight operations and uncertainty regarding the participation of delegates.

The EPC meeting was scheduled for Thursday July 14 th in Antigua and Barbuda.

Prior to that, the unfavourable weather dampened the 13 th session of the OECSESDU Technical Advisory Committee scheduled for July 12 th to 13 th also in St. Johns. As a result discussions for the Technical Advisory Committee were held only on the first day.

However, due to the considerable efforts of all concerned, all substantive agenda items were covered, leaving only group discussions outstanding. It is anticipated that other media will be used to facilitate the group discussions.

Although there was no EPC meeting, a new chairman will preside over the committee of OECS Environment Ministers for the next 12 months.

That new chairman is Wilmouth Daniel, Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Environment.

Daniel has taken over the mantle from his St. Lucia counterpart Fergusson John.

The new chairperson for the OECS ESDU TAC is Permanent Secretary in Antigua and Barbuda’s Ministry of Environment Cordell Weston(centre.)

Mr Weston has replaced colleague Permanent Secretary of St. Lucia Marcia Philbert-Jules.

The OECS Environment and Sustainable Development Unit, along with its stakeholders are considering an alternative approach following the unavoidable decision to postpone and shorten this year’s EPC and TAC meetings respectively.
