| Cornelius Isaac - Project Coordinator |
Cornelius Isaac is a national of Saint Lucia who graduated from the University of New Brunswick, Canada in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Forest Resource and Environmental Management. He also obtained a Master of Science from the University of New Brunswick in 2001 where he specialized in the area of Forest Hydro-Meteorology. Publications related to this field include:
Mr. Isaac worked with the Government of St. Lucia, within the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in the position of Assistant Chief Forest Officer from 2001 to 2006, and as Deputy Chief Forest Officer from 2006 to 2007. From 2007 to 2010 he worked with the Integrating Watershed & Coastal Areas Management Demonstration Project (IGEF-IWCAM) in the capacity of St. Lucia demonstration Site Project Manager. His fundamental interests are in the areas of watershed processes and management, fresh water resources, land cover classification and distribution, land use change impacts, climate change, and atmosphere-forest interactions. Some St. Lucia–based activities where he contributed significant inputs included; (a) Description and Mapping of natural Life zones, (b) Water deficit mapping, (c) Drought Hazard mapping, (d) Vegetation and land Cover Mapping, (e) A National Fire Management Plan, (f) A 10-year Forest Management Plan, (g) An Integrated Spatial Development Plan for Anse La Raye and Fond DO’r watersheds, (h) A National Water Policy and, (i) The establishment of a Water Resources Management Agency and supporting legislation. Mr. Isaac currently works with the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Secretariat through its Environment and Sustainable Development Unit (ESDU), in the capacity of Project Coordinator for the “Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Management in the OECS Countries” project. This project is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank in cooperation with the Caribbean Development Bank. The project has a duration period of 17 months, with main objectives being to; (a) Strengthen institutional capacity of the OECS member countries and its Secretariat in community-based disaster risk management and (b) Enhance community resilience to natural disasters.
