 Over the years, traditional herbalists have used nutmeg as a medication for various health ailments. More recently, however, studies have revealed that both nutmeg and mace possess distinct medicinal properties. Noëlville Ltd, in consultation with specialists involved in the pharmaceutical and medical professions, carried out intensive research which resulted in the creation of NUT-MED. It is a blend of plant extracts including nutmeg, mace and menthol, which together with methyl salicylate provide a deep heating strength, by having a topical analgesic effect. NUT-MED is claimed to relieve tight sore joints, arthritic pains, muscle soreness, inflammation and to give instant relief to back pains. THE COAL POT, a small exotic soap company in Dominica making big impact with USAID Assistance |
The Coal Pot is a small soap processing enclave owned and managed by women. This operation was formed less than five years ago with the help of an American Peace Corp Volunteer and several unemployed young women through a soap-making class. The Coal Pot soaps have only natural additives and are scented with pure essential oils from plants and flowers that grow in Dominica affectionately referred to as the Nature Isle. The “natural” theme is evidenced with the use of 100% pro-consumer and Bio-degradable inputs and printed on recycled paper with soy-based inks. The enterprise is located in Grand Bay a country village in Dominica. |

USAID Funded Program transforms Agro-processing Firm, FROOTSY in St-Lucia |
Frootsy Food Ltd is a small agro processing enterprise located in Praslin, a fishing community on the east cost of St Lucia 25-kilo meters from the capital Castries. The enterprise produces Jams and Jellies, Confectionaries and Condiments. The enterprise was recruited after diagnostics were done on the company in April of 2002. At the time of recruitment the enterprise had an annual sale of less than EC$100,000 annually and although the company had a draft marketing plan it lacked the means of implementing it. Further the company was only supplying to the local supermarkets. |
