Castries, St. Lucia, August 27th, 2007:- The effects of Hurricane Dean on August 18th  severely limited operations of the OECS Secretariat’s Headquarters at Morne Fortune in St. Lucia.

Consequently the Directorate of the OECS Secretariat were forced to advise all staff of the OECS Secretariat to await further instructions before reporting to work and rendered the main building of the OECS Headquarters on the Morne inhabitable. The Secretariat also advised the general public to be careful when approaching the road adjacent to the main building of the OECS Secretariat at Morne Fortune because of possible falling debris.

Due to extensive damage, the main building at the OECS Secretariat remains restricted to unauthorized persons. Therefore, efforts are ongoing to redeploy staff who occupied the main building to a temporary and enabling environment at other premises at the OECS Secretariat.

The OECS Secretariat has also reported that its Export Development Unit in Dominica was unscathed by the effects of Hurricane Dean.

The Directorate of the OECS Secretariat is also mindful of the existing tropical weather systems and is monitoring them closely with the best interest of staff and clients of the OECS Secretariat in mind.
